Preservation's Guide to Creating a Single Sheet Pamphlet

Looking for a new craft activity to try while at home? Conservators in-training, rejoice! The University Libraries' Preservation unit and the Book Arts League of Lafayette, Colorado can teach you how to make a single sheet pamphlet to further your crafting skills during Preservation Week. To get started you will need is a piece of paper—computer, notebook or construction paper will do—a ruler, a pair of scissors and a pencil. 

1. Draw one horizontal line across the paper and three vertical lines evenly spaced apart. Number the pages to keep track.

2. Fold the paper in half lengthwise, then unfold. 

3. Fold in half crosswise, then fold each short end back to the middle fold. Open folds out, leaving page folded in half crosswise.

4. Cut in from the fold, following the crease from Step 1. Stop when you reach the next fold line, then unfold. 

5. Fold in half lengthwise then push ends together, allowing the center section to move apart. Fold together to form a book.

6. Complete! Now you are ready to draw and write your pamphlet. Make it your own!
