Graduate research opportunity: attend the CAAAS Fellowship Forum Feb. 10
Are you a graduate student conducting research and creative work in African studies, African American studies, and African diaspora studies? The Center for African and African American Studies (CAAAS) and the University Libraries invite you to attend a forum where current CAAAS Fellows will share updates on their research projects.
This event is an opportunity for CU Boulder master’s and doctoral students to learn more about the fellowship program, which is now accepting applications for next year.
The forum, on Feb. 10, 2025, noon to 2 p.m. in the Norlin Library Center for British and Irish Studies room, is the last in a year-long series in whic CAAAS fellows for 2024-2025 share details from their funded interdisciplinary research projects.
At the event, attendees will hear excerpts from some of the 2024-2025 research projects and can ask questions about the research and the fellowship opportunities. The fellowship is a joint initiative between University Libraries and CAAAS and supports graduate students with funding for travel, access to unique collections, and one-on-one librarian support to advance their research.
“If you are a graduate student in any department doing interdisciplinary work relating to African and African American studies, we want to meet you and talk about how we can support you and make you part of our community,” said Reiland Rabaka, founder and director of the CAAAS. “There is tremendous value in us coming together. This year, we have people from music, law, media studies, history and philosophy - just to name a few. Come hear about their experiences and ask questions.”
Current projects included a history doctoral candidate studying race and outdoor recreation in the 20th century American South and a musicology doctoral student studying Igbo African masquerade music and the cultural impacts of the Igbo African émigrés.
