CU Boulder Libraries wins national award for government information website

The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) has recognized the University of Colorado Boulder Libraries with its 2026 Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) award for best website, honoring its creative approach to making federal government information accessible and engaging.

The Libraries Keeping Colorado Informed guide was developed in conjunction with the USA 250 and Colorado 150 celebrations. It brings government documents to life through an accessible collection of resources spanning history, military affairs, weather, technology, recipes, literature, comics and more.

The guide also highlights resources of particular interest to Colorado residents and provides context for materials featured in the Libraries’ display cases.

“I like to say that if you give me five minutes, I can point you to a Government document you’ll love,” said University Libraries Depository Coordinator Phil Wrede. “Government information touches nearly every part of our lives, and one of my favorite parts of this work is helping people see the history and human effort behind it.”

Wrede developed the guide to humanize government information and encourage people to explore the stories behind public documents.

The award recognizes the Libraries longstanding commitment to public access to government information, dating to its designation as a Federal Depository Library in 1879.
