Media Archiving and Preservation (MAP) Fellowships
The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries invites applicants for one paid, undergraduate Media Archiving and Preservation (MAP) Fellowships for the Spring 2024 semester. Undergraduate students from relevant disciplines (Cinema Studies, Media Studies, History, Art and Art History, etc.) are encouraged to apply.
CU Boulder Libraries will offer one position in Spring 2024:
Media Digitization : The MAP Fellow will learn the techniques and best practices of digitizing archival film, video, and audio recordings, from the Libraries’ Digital Media Services staff. The Fellow will gain experience handling archival media and a variety of related equipment, including the Libraries’ Lasergraphics ScanStation film scanner; performing basic digital color correction and editing; and using standard digital preservation formats and workflows.
One undergraduate student will be selected for the duration of the semester. Each MAP Fellow will be expected to participate in archival activities 6-8 hours per week in Norlin Library, during regular work hours, 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday, January 16-May 3.
Each MAP Fellow will receive:
A $1800 stipend for the semester, disbursed in monthly payments
Up to $300 in professional development funds, which can be used to pay for conference registration (virtual or in-person), webinar registration, or membership in professional organizations
Direct professional mentoring with the Libraries’ Moving Image Archivist and Digital Media Services staff
The option to continue as a Libraries’ MAP Fellow in Summer 2024, with the same stipend and benefits each semester
Previous experience in media archiving and preservation is not required – though preference may be given to students who have taken classes in Film Archiving and Preservation, Moving Image Archives, or Digital Preservation.
