Archives Apprentice for the Innovations in Jewish Life Collections

Description
Gain practical professional archives management and processing experience in an academic archive! The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries’ Rare & Distinctive Collections is looking for an Archives Apprentice who will work onsite in Norlin Library to process archival materials in RaD’s Innovations in Jewish Life collections. Under the supervision and instruction of the Lead Archivist and Senior Processing Archivist, the Archives Apprentice will arrange, describe, re-house, and create or update finding aids and accession records for new and legacy collections in this collecting area. Training will be provided on archival accessioning and processing strategies, archival description, and finding aid creation. The apprentice will gain experience with the Libraries’ archival collection management database, ArchivesSpace; writing a finding aid; and arrangement strategies.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an MLIS program and will be for the duration of the apprenticeship.
- Interest in pursuing a career in archives management.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and productively.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills.
- Experience with the study of Jewish American history, the Jewish Renewal movement, or religious history may enhance candidacy.
Responsibilities
- Process, arrange, describe, and re-house new and legacy archival collections in RaD’s Innovations in Jewish Life (IJL) Collections
- Create or update finding aids for these collections in the CU Boulder Libraries’ instance of ArchivesSpace
- Assist with accessioning new acquisitions for the IJL Collections as needed
Additional Information:
This program begins in September 2024 and runs through at least mid-December 2024, with an option to continue in the Spring 2025 semester from mid-January through early May 2025. The Apprentice is expected to complete 10-15 hours per week of onsite work, between 9am-4pm Monday-Thursday (Friday hours and remote work are not available for this position). The Apprentice will be paid between $19.50/hour. For full consideration, please apply by August 23, 2024.
