Faculty and staff may now record instructional videos in Norlin Library

The University Libraries’ Video Creation Station (VCS) is now available for CU Boulder faculty and staff to support your remote teaching needs.

Located in Norlin E203, the VCS is a room within a room, equipped with easy-to-use video and audio technologies designed to enhance the presentation of your instructional content.

The VCS features sound-absorbing panels, a standard three-point room, fill and backlighting setup and includes a built-in microphone.

Bring your own USB flash drive, laptop/tablet and a laptop dongle if your device does not have an HDMI port. Note: We also recommend those with accompanying slideshow presentations and other included multimedia content bring their own clickers to the studio.

To get started, connect your device to the system via HDMI, push the “Main Power” button and insert your USB flash drive into the system’s USB port.

From the control panel, you may adjust the camera’s height and zoom function, and toggle between a full or partial view of the camera or any pre-prepared content such as a slideshow.

You may also add or remove room lights and fill lights directly from the control panel and adjust the temperature settings via remote.

The “Record” and “Stop” buttons are located on the control panel, but if needed, there is a yellow switch peddle you can use to start, pause and resume recording.

Faculty and staff may reserve the VCS weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. in 30-minute increments for up to four hours at a time.

The College of Media, Communication and Information (CMCI) has provided a number of helpful tips on preparing for your VCS recording and for your post-production work. You may view that document here.
