The University Libraries are offering three paid professional opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students. Make your impact in the libraries while gaining practical, hands on experience.

Graduate Opportunities

Friends of the Libraries Rare and Distinctive Collections Apprenticeship

Working with University Libraries’ Map Librarians, the Friends of the Libraries Rare and Distinctive Collections apprentice will gain practical, professional experience in a specialized academic library. Learn the ins and outs of map, blueprint and aerial photograph preservation as well as how to organize and describe materials with current metadata standards. 

This in-person apprenticeship is open to anyone currently (or as of Spring 2023) enrolled in a Library and Information Science graduate program and will be paid $15.00/hr and up to $1500 for the spring 2023 semester.

Provost’s Fellowship in Information Science for the University Libraries

Exclusively for CU Boulder graduate students at the master’s and PhD levels, The Provost’s Fellowship in Information Science for the University Libraries provides the opportunity to expand your understanding of libraries’ and librarians’ roles in the evolving information ecosystem. 

Pick from two project opportunities — Cultural Heritage Guide Development or Metadata Enhancement Project — and be awarded $1,500 for 100 hours of participation during the spring 2023 semester.

Undergraduate Opportunities

University Libraries Undergraduate Student Fellowship

The Undergraduate Student Fellowship introduces CU Boulder students to careers in academic librarianship by providing the opportunity to work closely with a mentor team of library faculty and staff. 

Gain experience in various facets of librarianship including: Access & Discovery, Acquisitions, Collection Development & Assessment, Instruction, Outreach, Reference and Strategic Planning and Leadership. Fellows are awarded $1,500 for 120 hours of participation in the program during the spring 2023 semester.
