Gemmill reduces onsite collection

The Gemmill Engineering, Math & Physics Library will be reducing the size of their onsite print collection by 50 thousand volumes as part of an initiative to ensure that shelf space is reserved for the most up-to-date items. Library patrons will not lose access to these books — the majority will be moved to our off-site storage facility, PASCAL — and will be available within approximately two business days. All other items will be available electronically. The benefits of this project are that our collections housed in Gemmill will be easier to browse, relevant and current.

The University Libraries, and libraries in general, regularly evaluate, update and rightsize their collections as a best practice. All the books we selected to move have not been circulated in ten or more years.
