Building compassion and joy with Reverend Nontombi Naomi Tutu
Reverend Nontombi Naomi Tutu, daughter of the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu will speak on cultivating compassion in a Buffs One Read and Mindful Campus Program event on April 12, 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the Fiske Planetarium.
Her talk, “Building Compassion and Joy from the Inside Out,” is the culminating event for the Mindful Campus Program and Buffs One Read 2023-2024 title The Book of Joy, written by Archbishop Tutu and His Holiness the Dalai Lama with Douglas Abrams. Buffs One Read seeks to build community through the shared reading of one book.
In the talk, Rev. Tutu will explore how we can cultivate compassion and find joy within ourselves. Drawing from her own experiences, she will situate this discussion in dialogue with The Book of Joy.
Rev. Tutu is a public speaker, a human rights activist with a focus on race, gender and economic reconciliation, and an Episcopal priest. She was born and grew up in South Africa, received her BA from Berea College in economics and French, her MA from the University of Kentucky in international economic development.
