Libraries put gift from CU Athletics to work
Athletic and academic experiences go hand-in-hand at the University of Colorado Boulder. Thanks to a recent generous $50,000 donation from CU Athletics, the University Libraries are able to offer three new resources to the community.
Athletic Director Rick George said the department chose to give to the Libraries because “the library is such an important part of the campus and we felt that our gift would be beneficial to the library and their mission.” The department gave the money intending that the Libraries use it at their discretion. In that spirit, the gift was used to purchase three resources that will support student learning and shape tomorrow’s leaders: New York Times Online, DocuSeek2 and Sage EBA Interdisciplinary eBooks.
Students and faculty can access The New York Times online using an Academic Pass. After registering for a renewable seven-day Academic Pass, they may access The New York Times content from any device or through the NYTimes app.
The Libraries are excited to add DocuSeek2 Complete Collection of streaming videos from leading independent and documentary film producers and distributors, such as Bullfrog, Icarus and Terra Nova Films.
Interdisciplinary eBooks from SAGE Knowledge includes access to reference resources and books on health, environment, communication and social services.
All of these resources support research and teaching for a wide variety of subjects, and are accessible 24/7 from any location.
Interim Dean of Libraries Leslie Reynolds said of the gift, “The generous support from Athletics has made them a partner in empowering individuals to discover and integrate reliable information in innovative, meaningful ways.” The Libraries hope to build on this partnership in the future.
George said, “We love being a part of CU Boulder and we are very proud of what this university stands for.” The Libraries couldn’t agree more. Go Buffs!
