Asian Studies Collection
In sum, the University Libraries hold approximately 410,000 volumes related to Asia and Asian Studies, shelved in Norlin Library and in other library locations. With an interdisciplinary emphasis on the humanities and social sciences, the Asian Studies Collection focuses on disciplines such as literature, language, history and religious studies. Languages represented include Chinese, Japanese, Korean, English, Arabic, Hindi and Urdu.
The University Libraries works closely with the department of Asian Languages and Civilizations and the Center for Asian Studies. Our expert librarians are here to support research, teaching and learning for all scholars with interests in Asian Studies.
Using the collection
More than 100,000 volumes of scholarly material in Chinese, Japanese and Korean are held in Norlin Library's Asian Studies Stacks, located on the southeast side of Norlin and accessible from the first or second floors. In addition to publications in East Asian languages, the University Libraries also hold over 300,000 volumes pertinent to Asian Studies in English and other Asian languages, such as Arabic, Hindi and Urdu. These items are shelved in the Norlin Stacks, located on the building's east side.
Materials related to the study of Asia in a variety of disciplines may be shelved in other collections or library locations, such as Norlin's Art & Architecture Collection, Science Stacks, or the Gemmill Engineering Math and Physics Library.
